South College Atlanta to host free community wellness fair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 4, 2026

South College will host a community wellness fair to offer free screenings and education to the public while providing students in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) and Physician Assistant (PA) programs with additional opportunities to demonstrate patient care.

The event will take place Thursday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Atlanta campus, located at 2800 Century Parkway NE, on the eighth floor in rooms 802 and 804.

The wellness fair is free and open to the public.

Interactive wellness stations will focus on fall prevention and balance; hearing and vision; blood pressure and vital signs; functional fitness; nutrition and healthy habits; stress, sleep and mental health; brain health and cognitive wellness; and healthy aging at home.

“We look forward to welcoming community members to South College for a health fair centered on wellness and education,” said Josh Huffaker, president of South College Atlanta. “The event will give attendees, including older adults, access to free screenings and practical health information to support well-being while providing our students valuable opportunities to apply their training and practice patient care.”

The event is a collaboration with the South College Doctor of Occupational Therapy program and the Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies program. Students will offer tangible tips and demonstrate how occupational therapy can help individuals live healthier, more independent lives.

The Doctor of Occupational Therapy program includes comprehensive instruction in patient screening and evaluation of best practices; evidence-based care for patients across the lifespan; research methods, design and analysis; professional leadership and advocacy; and community-based practice and health promotion.

The program can be completed in two years for full-time students and offers a hybrid learning model with online courses taught by highly qualified faculty members and immersive learning at on-campus laboratories with modern equipment. Fieldwork experiences are completed at approved clinical sites.

The Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies program is designed to help students build a solid foundation in patient assessment, clinical medicine and the medical, behavioral and social sciences. It includes classroom training, hands-on labs and clinical simulation assessments in a variety of patient settings. In just 27 months, students are trained to assess healthcare issues, perform physical exams, counsel behavioral health issues and diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses and injuries.
