Admission Requirements

To apply for admission to South College, you will need to submit an application online or contact our admissions office.A $50 application fee is required for most programs. The Physician Assistant application fee is $95. The Doctor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Physical Therapy application fee is $60. This fee is not refundable except as provided under the Financial Information section of the course catalog.

Academic Calendar

South College operates on the quarter system, with terms beginning in September/October, January, April, and June. The college also offers accelerated class calendars with certain courses mid-quarter. For actual class start dates throughout the academic year, check the Academic Catalog or contact the Admissions Department.

To accommodate the experiential requirements of some programs, quarters may begin and end at times outside of the standard academic calendar. If so, the program will communicate this information in a timely manner to each admitted student.

Transfer Students

To be eligible for undergraduate general admission, a transfer student must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED and meet the following stipulations:

  • Transfer from an accredited collegiate institution
  • Have earned 23 quarter or 15 semester hours with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.0 (only college-level academic courses are applicable)
  • Students applying to graduate programs must meet the admissions and application procedures and requirements indicated for the associated program.

Dual Enrollment for High School Students

Through this program, qualified high school students may pursue collegiate coursework either online or in person while completing their high school requirements.

Students accepted for dual enrollment can enroll part-time or full-time at any of our locations provided they meet course prerequisites and receive permission from their high school principal or counselor.  Qualified students residing in Tennessee are eligible for the Tennessee Dual Enrollment Grant which fully funds their dual enrollment courses at South College. The South College Promise is a tuition assistance grant funded directly by South College and awarded to qualified high school students who wish to pursue dual enrollment courses at our Atlanta or Asheville campus. After the 10th dual enrollment course, students receiving assistance from all programs (TN DEG or SC Promise) are required to pay $500.00 per course out of pocket.

To be considered for dual enrollment, students must satisfy all of the following criteria:

  1. Provide written recommendation from the principal or counselor
  2. Have the written consent of a parent or guardian
  3. Meet general admission requirements of South College
  4. Achieve and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 high school work completed

Dual enrollment students are subject to the South College Satisfactory Progress Standards outlined in the institutional catalog.

Students may forfeit the privilege of participating in the program if they receive a grade below a C in their collegiate coursework.

VISITING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Visiting students are admitted for a specified period of time, normally one quarter. To apply for visiting status, you must file a regular application form and submit a statement from your dean or registrar stating that you are in good standing with their institution and have permission to take specific courses at South College for transfer to your institution.
Since visiting students are not admitted as regular students, transcripts of college work completed elsewhere are not usually required. If you wish to remain at South College longer than one quarter, you must meet all requirements for regular admission as a transfer student.

Readmission of Former Students

Students who previously attended South College but who have withdrawn and not attended for two or more quarters must reapply for admission. Those who have not attended for one year or longer must also pay a $50 application fee.

If you enrolled at other colleges during your absence, you must have transcripts sent to South College. Applications for readmission should be submitted at least one month before the beginning of the quarter in which you plan to return.

Returning students must demonstrate that they already meet the current entrance test requirements for admission, or must retake the test and achieve the minimum entrance score. Students who withdraw from classes may have trouble scheduling the classes they need when reenrolling, because most South College courses are offered on a rotation basis.

The college reserves the right to deny readmission to any applicant who has an unacceptable academic or conduct record. Students with outstanding financial obligations must make arrangements with the Business Office before they will be allowed to matriculate.

Participating in educational courses or programs is a benefit to employees and to the businesses for which they work. The onboarding is easy. South College can provide informational materials to employees interested in pursuing additional education. Employees who participate gain confidence and skills and may even become your biggest asset.

Students Not Seeking Degrees or Certificates

Enrollment in selected subjects is available to adults who wish to complete these courses for the purpose of personal enrichment. These students are classified as special subject students and can register for classes for no more than two quarters.

If a special subject student wishes to change his/her status at any time during these two quarters, for example to pursue a degree or certificate, the student must see Registrar staff.

Individuals participating in a specially constructed training workshop, seminar, or course that is not part of the pursuit of a degree or certificate are not required to meet any admission requirements.

Financial aid

Qualifying students at South College have access to a range of financial aid to provide the economic assistance they need to pay for college. Aid is available in the form of scholarships, grants and awards, work-study programs, and loans. We’re happy to participate in numerous federal, state, and private student aid programs, and to offer funding directly.

I chose the health science program because my ultimate goal is to become a Physician Assistant. This program prepares those who have the interest of continuing an education to the master’s level of health science and fulfills all educational pre-requisites for acceptance into a Physician Assistant program.
