**The Nurse Anesthesia Program will offer a Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) beginning in 2027, as approved by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and the Tennessee Board of Nursing. There are no curricular changes associated with this degree title change. Applications for the DNP with a Concentration in Nurse Anesthesia are no longer being accepted, and all future cohorts will be admitted as DNAP-seeking students.**
Our Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) Program offers a 36-month full-time BSN-to-DNAP course of study designed to produce highly skilled, independent graduate nurse anesthetists. As a graduate, you’ll be eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam (NCE) to become board-certified as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
The program features a hybrid curriculum design, with:
- Distance Education courses with synchronous and asynchronous experiences.
- In-person learning with faculty and peers during required intensive sessions in Knoxville, TN.
- Clinical practicum courses that provide abundant and diverse clinical experiences to ensure graduates are ready to enter practice.
You will not be required to physically relocate for slightly more than one year (5 quarters) of your hybrid distance education.
Part-time clinical studies begin in the program’s second year, with full-time clinical immersion in year three.

The South College Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offered at the Parkside Learning Site (Knoxville) received initial approval from the Tennessee Board of Nursing in December 2003, with full approval granted in September 2008. Approval for the addition of the Nashville Learning Site was granted in November 2016. The Master of Science in Nursing program received approval in November 2016. The Doctor of Nursing Practice program received approval in February 2020. The Post-Graduate Certificate programs received approval in August 2021. The South College Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offered at the Asheville Learning Site received initial approval from the North Carolina Board of Nursing in February 2016, with full approval granted in May 2019. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offered at the Atlanta Learning Site received initial approval from the Georgia Board of Nursing in September 2018. The COA approved a degree title change for the program in January 2026 from Doctor of Nursing Practice to Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, with a corresponding program name change to the South College Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program. The program notified the COA in June 2026 that a Waiver of Degree Requirement is no longer needed, given the degree title change to Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice.
