South College Nashville launches echocardiogram concentration
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 4, 2025
South College Nashville has launched a new concentration for its Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program – Adult Echocardiography – with the first cohort already on campus.
Echocardiology Technicians are medical sonographers who use ultrasound equipment to create images of a patient’s heart. These images help physicians diagnose conditions such as blood clots, valve problems and other cardiac issues.
“Healthcare remains one of the fastest growing professional sectors, especially in the Nashville area,” said Nick South, campus president for South College Nashville. “Adult Echocardiography is a highly specialized field, and we’re pleased to expand our offerings in imaging sciences to help meet the demand for needed sonography professionals and provide another opportunity for success for our graduates.”
South College Nashville welcomed its first class of students in the Adult Echocardiography concentration for the AS Diagnostic Medical Sonography program in October.
The cohort will undergo classroom instruction, be trained to use specialized imaging technology and participate in clinical labs and simulations. The hybrid format combines online learning activities with hands-on, campus-based labs.
Enrollment for the next cohort in Nashville will begin in Summer 2026.
Interested students may call the admissions team at 615-334-4632 or visit south.edu/nashville.
The Adult Echocardiography program is actively pursuing initial Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS)/Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).
This associate program can be completed in 27 months and is designed to prepare graduates for professional certification examinations offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), including Adult Echocardiography.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2024 median pay for diagnostic medical sonographers, which includes echocardiography, is $89,340 per year. Additionally, the field is expected to grow at 13% through 2034, since the overall population is aging.
The campus is located at 616 Marriott Drive in Nashville. Find more information online at south.edu/nashville.
