South College Atlanta Physical Therapist Assistant program earns full accreditation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 8, 2025

South College Atlanta has earned full accreditation status for its Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

“The full accreditation status demonstrates that South College is a great place to pursue a PTA degree, as we are committed to providing high-quality educational programs for students,” said Josh Huffaker, president of the Atlanta campus. “The need for qualified healthcare professionals continues to grow, and our students can gain the knowledge and skills to become effective and empathetic practitioners.”

Along with Atlanta, South College offers fully accredited Physical Therapist Assistant programs at its campuses in Asheville, North Carolina, and Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee.

CAPTE, the national accrediting agency for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant programs, granted full accreditation to South College Atlanta in December after the submission of a self-study report and a site visit by the commission earlier in 2025.

Students receive classroom and clinical training to develop skills to assist physical therapists in delivering treatment plans that help patients regain function, strength and mobility. The academic program covers multiple aspects of physical therapy, including sports medicine, pediatrics, acute care, outpatient orthopedics, rehabilitation, extended care and assisted living.

The program includes coursework on professional communication; documentation and medical records; patient management; patient rehabilitation techniques; and therapeutic exercise and muscle testing.

South College also offers additional programs to advance in physical therapy education, including a Bachelor of Science in Health Science (Pre-Physical Therapy) and Doctor of Physical Therapy.

The campus is located at 2600 Century Parkway NE in Atlanta. Interested students may call the admissions team at 404-282-3632 or visit south.edu/atlanta.

Across its national footprint, South College offers an array of academic programs in business, education, healthcare and other fields. The institution was founded in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1882 and now includes 10 physical campuses, online learning and Competency-Based Education (CBE).
