PANCE Pass Rate

PANCE and State Licensure

Graduates of the PA program must pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) to become a certified PA and to obtain a permanent state license. The official National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) PANCE Pass Rate Summary Report is HERE.

State Licensure

PAs must be licensed by the state in which they intend to practice before seeing patients.  State laws and regulations for Physician Assistants vary from state to state. Statutory and regulatory requirements for initial licensure and license renewal for each state can also be found via this link – https://www.aapa.org/download/19739/. As indicated via this site, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited program meets initial licensure requirements for all states (not required currently by Minnesota) and the passing of the PANCE national certification exam is required. Another resource is https://www.nccpa.net/state-licensing-boards/. The South College Asheville PA program is ARC-PA accredited and we work diligently with all students in preparation for the PANCE.

Program Goals Summary and Progress

The South College Asheville PA Program evaluates its progress toward stated goals on an annual basis. Progress is measured through:

  • Surveys (5-point Likert scale) completed by students at the end of the didactic phase, graduates soon after program completion, program faculty, and clinical preceptors.
  • Cohort averages such as GPA and patient care hours from admissions data.
  • PANCE performance, with the benchmark set at or above the national first-time pass rate (NCCPA).

For all survey-based measures, the benchmark is an average score of 3.5 or higher. For admissions and exam outcomes, the benchmark is performance at or above the stated target.

The information below summarizes this program’s goals and its current progress toward meeting them. The Class of 2025 was the first inaugural class. Information about each subsequent class is published annually.
