David Lane, Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies
I chose South College for the specific reason of their known affiliation with the military and known service to veterans. Even prior to attending South College, Dr. Don Yager, a Naval Reservist, performed my interview for the Navy Health Services Collegiate Program. After acceptance to the Naval program and South College Physician Assistant program, I was provided with excellent mentoring in military life through Dr. Yager, multiple other prior service faculty, and a very large portion of prior service classmates. Year after year, South accepts veterans to several different programs, providing them with valuable skills and education that leads to a successful civilian career. I personally benefited from this as it helped shape me into a leader as a Naval Officer and medical provider. They went out of their way to establish a rotation for me at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. I know they continued this valued service by working with me to establish a rotation with my practice at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, where I mentored multiple other Collegiate recipients during their Family Medicine rotation. Since graduating from South College, I have served honorably as a Navy PA, attained the rank of Lieutenant, attended a competitive Emergency Medicine residency, and had the opportunity to change lives through care I have provided. All thanks to South College. I have personally encouraged many Corpsmen and Marines to apply to one of their many medical programs. I hope they will be able to continue this service to veterans and future military officers.
