As you prepare for college, you will experience some type of standardized test that is required in order to apply. The college you plan to attend will determine which exam you should prepare for and take. These tips can be applied to any entrance exam you’re taking.
Prep early. Take a test prep course before the actual exam. You can prepare yourself by taking challenging classes, reviewing the material, and reading and writing essays for practice. The earlier you start preparing, the better!
Know what to expect. Whether you are taking the SAT, ACT, or another entrance exam, it is important to be knowledgeable about what the test will look like. Know which subjects the exam will include, and study appropriately. If it is an option, take a preliminary test so you will be familiar with the test format. You will feel more confident if you go into the exam knowing what to expect.
Practice timing yourself. The entrance exams are timed, and you can feel more prepared by timing yourself on practice tests. It can be overwhelming to only have a certain amount of time to complete such an important test, but if you have practiced being in that situation and environment beforehand, you will be less stressed when it comes time for the real thing. This will also help you determine which areas you need to spend the most time on and the ones that you already know.
Be ready for test day. Test day is the most important day! Know when and where the test is so you won’t be late. Try to get a good night’s sleep the night before so you are alert and focused. Take a snack to keep your mind sharp, and lastly, be confident!
