More than a century ago, fulfilling that mission meant providing a campus where all courses occurred in a classroom at a set time.
South College Competency Based Education (CBE)
Where dreams find direction
Since South College was founded in 1882, we have focused on serving students by providing quality educational opportunities that have a meaningful impact on their lives.
Today, it means offering accelerated, hybrid, transfer, and distance learning programs to meet the needs of students who have diverse needs and goals. It means technology that supports the educational classrooms – whether that is on campus or online. Most of all, it means faculty members who are passionate about student learning and success.

What is CBE?
Competency-Based Education is an innovative approach to learning based on flexibility, a self-paced schedule, real-work relevance, and acquiring skills that are directly applicable to a student’s area of focus.
CBE programs are offered in a subscription-based style. Each subscription consists of a 6-month term, with no limit to the number of courses a student can complete within a term. Progression is based on each individual student’s ability to demonstrate mastery over the course competencies. There are many opportunities for faculty interaction in each course.

Financial Aid is available to those that qualify
Your Financial Aid Officer will guide you through all opportunities and options that are available to help with higher education costs, including determining eligibility for federal, state, institutional, and other options you may qualify for.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition is subscription based and is $6000 per six-month term. You will be assigned 2 classes initially, then one at a time after completion of your first class. Because the classes are self-paced, you have control over how many 6-month terms you will need to complete your program.
You will be set up with an appointment with financial aid to discuss your individual eligibility and funding options. South College offers a number of different financing tools, such as federal student loans, grant programs, private loans, and cash payment plans. Once you have completed your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) with your Financial Aid Officer, your FAO will be able to better explain the options that you qualify for and work with you to put together a funding plan that best fits your situation based on your eligibility. If you do not wish to complete a FAFSA, your Financial Aid Officer will be able to discuss non-federal financial aid options with you.
