In our Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program, you’ll focus on developing knowledge and skills in criminal justice, including areas such as private security, private investigations, parole and probation enforcement, corrections, and crime analysis. In addition to studying theory and practical techniques, your courses will focus on real-world applications of concepts covered in the classroom and provide an inside view of criminal justice operations and processes. You’ll also work to develop effective communication and research skills for working in criminal justice. By completing a criminal justice internship, you’ll also get a chance to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to the real world while under the supervision of an experienced professional. Our criminal justice bachelor’s degree program can prepare you to apply to professional criminal justice training programs like the federal, state, and local law enforcement academies, as well as seek entry-level opportunities in criminal justice.

Mission

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice is to provide educational and training experiences to students interested in careers in the criminal justice field, including policing, private security, private investigations, parole officers, probation officers, and crime analysts. Students in this program have the option to complete the program online or via a combination of onground and online. Students are required to earn a minimum grade of “C” in all major courses.

Learning Outcomes

Students pursuing this program will have several choices in future pursuits and the goals of the program reflect these possibilities:

  • The program seeks to prepare students to be successful candidates for admission into professional training programs in the criminal justice field, such as the federal, state, and local police academies.
  • The program seeks to prepare students not seeking admission into professional training programs to be successful candidates for entry-level positions with private and government employers in the criminal justice field.

Students wishing to pursue employment might seek positions with job titles including Police Officer, FBI Agent, Crime Analyst, Private Investigator, and Probation Officer.

Students completing this program will:

  • Develop an understanding of fundamental theoretical criminal justice concepts necessary for employment in the criminal justice field. Develop analytical and reasoning skills that promote independent thinking.
  • Demonstrate knowledge regarding the significance of historical, cultural, and political diversity as it relates to the field of criminal justice and the administration of justice.
  • Develop effective communication skills.
  • Gain knowledge of commonly held professional and ethical principles and practices utilized in the field of criminal justice.

Admission Requirements

All students must minimally meet the requirements for general admission to South College. General admission to South College does not guarantee admission to the program. Program admission is not granted until a student has successfully completed 60 hours of the required curriculum at South College, earning the minimum grades required by the program.

What is the tuition for South College?

Tuition and fees for South College students vary by program, and tuition rates are tiered based on the number of credits taken each quarter. For example, in our undergraduate programs, students taking 10-20 credits per quarter are charged one quarterly tuition rate based on their program, while students in the same program taking 1-5 or 6-9 credits are charged different tuition rates. Our tuition rates are designed such that South College students who take a high number of credits per quarter may be able to complete their program at a lower total cost than students who take fewer credits per quarter. And don’t forget we also offer numerous grants, scholarships, and financial aid packages to those that qualify.

South College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award degrees at the doctorate, educational specialist, master's, baccalaureate, and associate levels, as well as certificates. Does South College accept Transfer Students?

Yes! Credit for transfer work may be given if it was taken at an accredited collegiate institution, if it is equivalent to courses offered at South College, and if it carries a grade of C or better. Any coursework taken over seven years ago may be denied transfer credit if the material is outdated. Policies for the acceptance of any graduate level transfer credit are determined by the associated program faculty within guidelines determined by the institution.
