Physician assistants improve access to care by expanding a physician’s practice base, which is especially important in medically underserved areas. PAs are trained to assess healthcare issues, perform physical exams, provide preventative care, counsel behavioral health issues, and diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries. There are over 100,000 practicing PAs, with the majority working in primary care specialties. A favorable national climate, support from government policy makers and the medical establishment, plus creative planning from early leaders were all key factors in the successful introduction and growth of the Physician Assistant role.
Our Master of Physician Assistant Studies program offers a rigorous, comprehensive education designed to help prepare you to deliver outstanding patient care as a highly qualified professional physician assistant (PA). Our faculty strive for educational excellence as they prepare PA students to think critically, communicate compassionately, and understand the importance of collaborating in interdisciplinary healthcare teams to help meet patient and family needs within an ever-changing healthcare system. In addition to our core faculty members, local physicians and physician assistants serve as adjunct faculty in our Physician Assistant program.
