The South College Physical Therapist Assistant program provides students with the knowledge needed in order to become an educated healthcare provider. By completing this program, students will be eligible to work under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, helping manage sprains, fractures and many other injuries. Here are some highlights of our Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) degree.
It Can be Completed in Two Years
The PTA program at South College has a 24-month curriculum in which students can obtain their associate of science degree. The classes are taught in the mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday. The program will require you to be a committed student—you must put forth a lot of dedication, inside and outside of the classroom. After two years of schooling, you should be prepared to practice under a physical therapist and further yourself in this well-respected field.
What Does the Program Include?
The program includes an array of courses that can help you succeed as a professional PTA. As classes progress, you will eventually join clinical education internships, which are required and administered by South College. These internships will provide you with a variety of professional experiences in the healthcare field, such as rehabilitation, outpatient orthopedic, sports medicine, pediatric care and many more. By gaining firsthand experience at different healthcare facilities, students will be better equipped to care for others in their field.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, PTA employment is expected to have a 35 percent growth from 2008 to 2018, which is much faster than many other occupations. In fact, we display statistics of students’ success rates on our website, showing that in 2015, 92.9% of graduates were employed as a PTA within six months of passing their licensure exam.
South College encourages all who are interested in the Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant program to apply. If you are considering filling out an application or have questions in regards to the program, please reach out to our Admissions Department today.
