South College offers two programs to help you pursue a career in Pharmacy. With these programs, South College gives students the professional skills and technical knowledge required to be successful in today’s pharmaceutical field. The Associate of Science in Health Science (Pre-Pharmacy) is designed to provide the foundational courses for students wishing to pursue admittance to a Doctor of Pharmacy program. This degree is projected to take 7-8 quarters or two years. The curriculum consists of a variety of Gen Eds, foundational courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Opportunities exist if you decide you don’t want to pursue a Doctoral degree, including a career as a chemical technician, food science technician, pharmaceutical sales rep, and biological technician.
South College’s Doctor of Pharmacy program is the only accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy program in the state of Tennessee. The program is projected to take around 3 years to complete. Upon completion, students will be prepared to be proficient practitioners who deliver team-oriented patient care with advocacy and compassion to the community. While attending South College, you will be able to utilize the fully equipped, state-of-the-art labs offered.
Dr. Brandon Cave completed the Doctor of Pharmacy program and is a member of the 2014 inaugural class. Dr. Cave was the keynote speaker at South College’s recent white coat ceremony and is currently completing a PGY2 residency in West Palm, Florida. We had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his time at South College and what he’s up to now.
What made you choose South College?
Dr. Cave said he was sold on South College during the interview process. He explained how the faculty was passionate and enthusiastic; he got the impression that he could trust them. Dr. Cave also said the facilities and lab were state-of-the-art and helped convinced him that South College was the place for him.
What did/do you love about South College?
Dr. Cave said one thing about South College that he loves is the relationships he has gained from attending the school. He said that teachers from South College keep in contact with him and check up on him every once in a while. He created lasting, phenomenal friendships from his time at South College.
What did the School of Pharmacy do to help your career?
Dr. Cave said he believes his program did a great job at preparing him for the future because he receives compliments from people in the industry for how well prepared he is. He also said he is grateful for the faculty’s efforts in preparing him for a career in pharmacy.
How was it finding a job after college?
Dr. Cave said internships were offered through practice sites, which was part of South College’s curriculum. South College also offered a career fair prior to graduation. Plus, Dr. Cave said his involvement with the student chapter of ASHP helped him find a residency.
