At South College, our student success coaches play a vital role in providing each student with one-on-one attention and support as they pursue their academic goals. From enrolling for classes to preparing for graduation, our student success coaches are always there.
Student Success Coach Cathy Sabo is one member of our team who supports students in our online programs as they work to achieve their dreams.
“I help students succeed by providing guidance and support throughout their time here,” explains Cathy of her role at South College. “I work with students to troubleshoot any issues they are having so that they can stay on the track they want to be on. I communicate regularly with students to ensure that they can continue with their education without any interruptions.”
Cathy has worked in the education field for approximately seven years, with a focus on assisting online students. She also has a background in school counseling and has spent time working with children in an elementary school setting. She is passionate about the power of education to help students to advance in their personal and professional lives.
“Education is valuable today to either continue to move up in your field or to pursue a career that you are passionate about,” she says. “It gives you that expertise that makes you valuable to an employer to help you stand out. It shows that you are willing to work hard to obtain your goals.”
As a student success team member at South College, Cathy interacts with students daily through email and phone to address any questions or concerns that come up about their online classroom, textbooks, and other academic-related needs. Yet many of Cathy’s conversations go beyond these topics, and she often serves as a source of encouragement and understanding for her students.
“We support students through tough times when they may not have that support at home themselves,” she says. “We develop a strong relationship with them throughout their time in school.”
For Cathy, helping students to reach graduation and ensuring that they have a great experience along the way is incredibly rewarding.
“What I enjoy most about my job is seeing my students overcome any obstacles to get to graduation,” she says. “I am motivated to work hard to see that happen as I know that it is difficult for a lot of students to get there. I am happy to be a part of that and to work with them to reach their goals.”
