One of the things we are most proud of is the diverse backgrounds that South College students have. At South College, we work hard to cater to many different types of people including generational identities, career stages, educational needs and personal situations. We know that none of our students are the same, and we want you to know you will feel at home with us.
Here is a breakdown of our student body demographics:
Veteran
South College is a place for veterans to feel supported and encouraged. We work to honor the service you have contributed by working with you to meet financial and educational needs. Through the Yellow Ribbon program, we are approved by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission-Division of Veterans Education to offer degree programs to students eligible to receive veteran’s educational benefits.
Millennial
The demographic group following Generation X, Millennials were born somewhere in the early 1980s to the early 2000s. Now ranging in age from early 20s to mid-30s, we recognize this as one of our most engaged groups at South College. (Wondering how much you fit into this cohort? Take this quiz.) We are adapting to the changes in technology and cutting edge practices that Millennials are looking for as they choose to advance their career. Research also shows that Millennials are less content working in a profession that they do not feel passionate about. This is where we hope to help Millennials earn the degree that can set them up for success in a career field where they can be excited about the possibilities.
Non-traditional
Non-traditional students are in the majority at South College, and we are proud to be a place where everyone can find their home. Going back to school is something we want to be more exciting than intimidating, and we hope to use the life experiences gained by non-traditional students to help them excel in the classroom and the workforce. Our curriculum and class schedules are designed to help non-traditional students manage their time and balance a family or job with their goals of earning a degree.
Advanced Degree
These are the students who have previously completed a degree and are now returning to further their education with an advanced degree such as a master or doctorate. Many of these South College students are full-time employees seeking a degree that is fast and flexible. At South College, we don’t want your professional commitments to prohibit your academic aspirations. We work with these students to help them further their education and, therefore, further their career. Adding an advanced degree to their resume can make all the difference when it comes to seeking development in their careers.
Certificate Seeking
We know that not all students are looking to complete a traditional degree, many would just like to improve their knowledge or expertise in a certain area. These students are motivated to never stop learning and developing their abilities and passions.
South College welcomes a variety of students, each one with a different set of goals and dreams that we want to help make a reality. Our degrees and programs are designed to be flexible for all stages of life. Can you see yourself as a South College student? Get started today!
