At South College, our mission is to provide every student with the personalized attention and support that he/she needs to succeed. At every step of their journey, we make sure that our students have someone there to answer questions and guide them on the road ahead.
Student Success Coach Ann Gianoglio is one of many individuals on the South College team who spends her days helping our students to reach their goals. In particular, Ann works with students in our online master’s and pre-nursing programs.
“What I enjoy most about my work is getting to know my students,” she says. “They all have unique stories and backgrounds, and they are all here doing something that is going to change their lives. That road can be hard, so I enjoy being on that road with them and reassuring them that they can do it.”
Ann has been in the higher education field for over ten years. She started out in admissions and soon began serving as a mentor to new admissions representatives joining her team. Next, Anne became a student success advisor, supporting new students through enrollment and their classes. From there, she transitioned into academic advising, where she first mentored students one-on-one and later managed a team providing academic support for thousands of online students pursuing their doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees.
Ann, who herself holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree, believes strongly in the value of education. “There aren’t many investments that we make that can’t be taken away from us. What we learn is ours forever,” she reflects. “Knowledge is key to changing the world and making it better.”
As a South College Student Success Coach, Ann helps students prepare for classes and works with them on developing the key skills they need to succeed in an online program. Her days include proactively contacting students to inform them of next steps, academic resources, and important dates, as well as being ready and available to help whenever a student reaches out to her for assistance.
“Each interaction is unique, because each student has different needs at different times,” she explains. “One conversation might be coaching a student on time management, while, on the next call, I’m walking a student through how to submit an assignment.”
Long-term, Ann’s focus is always on getting her students to graduation. Congratulating new alumni is among her favorite parts of the job. She says, “The path is winding, and there can be bumps and potholes. My mission is to see students to the end of that path.”
