Organization is the key to academic success. Clean up your hectic college lifestyle by following these four organizational tips.
1. Use a Weekly Planner
By investing in a weekly planner, you can bring an abundance of order into your life. As soon as you get your hands on a syllabus, take some time to jot down important dates. Take a look at the tasks you have for the upcoming week to ensure you don’t miss any assignments. Also write in the days you are working, going to club meetings or visiting friends. This will help you organize all aspects of your life.
2. Don’t skip tasks.
Once you write tasks down, try not to skip them. This helps prevent you from procrastinating until the very last minute. For example, if you write down “study for one hour for biology test,” then do it. Earn that sense of accomplishment by being able to check off a task that you completed.
3. Keep Binders/Folders for Each Class
In order to stay organized in college, it is important to split your subjects. Though you might have a different preference, you could try keeping different colored notebooks for each subject ordividing your subjects by colored tabs in a binder. By keeping subjects separated, you will avoid confusion and maintain order in your studies.
4. Perfect Your Note-Taking Techniques
Paying attention in class is only half of it. Did you know that people forget 50-80% of what they have learned after just one day? This means that you must remember to take notes in order to refresh your mind of the subject material. With that, it is important to organize these notes to the best of your ability in order to reference back to them easily whenever you need. Don’t forget to title and date your notes! This will make it a lot easier for you to recall information and keep up with lectures.
Though finding organization in college can be challenging, alleviate your stress by following these four tips.
