We don’t have any doubt that you want to be the best student you can be. Going to school is something that can change your life and give you more opportunities. That’s why you should give it your best shot and get the most out of earning your degree. You may not have time to always do these four things – but if you do, you might see exciting results.
Ask for help
There are plenty of resources available to you as a college student that you won’t have free access to at any other time in your career. You should not only take advantage of these but also you should devote time to seeking out the extent to which these resources will enhance your educational experience. Make sure that you take time to connect with the faculty and staff and attend office hours and study groups. You are paying for their time, so use it!
Do the reading
As time-consuming as it may seem, treat reading assignments just like any other course requirement and don’t skip it – even if you have other projects, papers or tests. Reading as much as possible for the class will make a big difference when it comes to class participation and test day. Doing the reading as it comes in stages over the course of the semester will save you from having to cram at exam time. Plus, you might retain the information better as well.
It may be the last thing you want to do after a long day of class and work, but taking time every day to review material and organize your notes will do wonders for the retention of material. Even if you have other assignments, spending 30 minutes to look back over some harder concepts and re-writing them in your own words is a major investment in understanding the material more thoroughly. This can also prepare you for any questions you may need to ask your professor in the next class.
Go the extra mile
Always take it to the next level, this is how you achieve excellence. When extra credit is offered, be sure to attempt it. Whenever your professor announces an extra test study session, consider going even if you think you already understand the material.
Being a really great student isn’t something that just happens, it takes a lot of time, effort and commitment. We know that you have what it takes to be successful at South College, and we will be here to help every step of the way.
