The New Year is always a good time to pause, think about how far you’ve come and decide where you are headed. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the busyness of our everyday lives that we forget to be mindful about self-reflection and goal setting. Here are some ways you can discover more about yourself and where you want to be at the end of 2016.
Take a Personality Test
If you haven’t ever taken a personality test to find out more about your personality and how you work with others, you should give it a try. The Myers-Briggs personality test is a great resource, and there is a large amount of research associated with the personality types that will reveal a lot about your preferences. There are also many free personality tests online that are quick and easy. You can never go wrong with a little bit of self-discovery.
Reflect on the Past Year
2015 may have been a year of exciting achievements or hard struggles, but either way, take time to reflect on all that has happened. Think back to who you were at the beginning of 2015 and who you are now. How have you changed? How are you the same? Were these changes positive or negative? Are they things you should continue or correct? Spending time to reflect will help set you up for success in the next year.
Take time every now and then to jot down your thoughts about different aspects of your life. This doesn’t have to be a detailed account of your day, but use it as a tool to help you process different goals, obstacles or victories. You may discover yourself writing things that you didn’t know you were experiencing.
Set New Goals
You should be continuously setting small goals and updating them as you go. This will keep you from growing stagnant or looking back a few months down the road and realizing you haven’t achieved anything you had set out to do. Benchmark goals are a great way to slowly climb the ladder of success, one rung at a time.
The road to self-discovery can be bumpy with some surprising twists and turns, but ultimately, it leads to becoming your best self. Being a person you are proud of and that others can rely on will improve your confidence and your productivity.
