Current Position and Professional Experience:
Dr. Michael Nowak is an Assistant Professor with over 17 years of experience as a Physician Assistant including having worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He has clinical experience in Cardiothoracic & General Surgery, Hospital Medicine, and Family Practice/Urgent Care.
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Nowak helps students obtain clinical skills for the underserved population associated with Knoxville Dream Center “Under the Bridge Program” and Remote Area Medical clinics. He also has been leading a group of PAs and PA students on a self-organized yearly Guatemala Medical Mission Trip for nearly a decade.
Dr. Nowak received his Doctor of Medical Science with an emphasis on Medical Education from the Medical School at Lincoln Memorial University, a Masters of Physician Assistant Science from Saint Francis University, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Buffalo and a Bachelor of Science in Cytotechnology from Upstate Medical University.
Dr. Nowak is the Course Director for Fundamentals of Surgery, Clinical Laboratory Medicine, and Cardiovascular Medicine. He also teaches ENT and Hematology and assists in various labs throughout the PA curriculum.
